What To Bring Camping To Make Your Trip Comfortable

Expert Author Edward Ted Leger
If you are heading away camping for the first time, you are in for a treat. The opportunity to get out into the fresh air, away from electronics, and ignore the hustle and bustle of daily life is an opportunity to be grabbed with both hands. You may be wondering what to bring camping to make your trip the most comfortable. Keep these three points in mind when you head out shopping.
1. THE TENT
When you are thinking about the different items that need to be taken when you go camping, the tent has to be at the top of your list. It is also one area that you do not want to take shortcuts on. It has to be big enough to accommodate everyone comfortably that is going along. It also has to have an indoor living space that is big enough for all in case bad weather strikes. The last thing you want is to be sitting on top of each other for three days while the rain pours down outside.
Look for a tent that has mosquito mesh over the window openings so that you can let the fresh air in without encouraging the bugs. A tent that is fast to erect and uncomplicated to put together should be at the top of the checklist. You do not need to spend a fortune, but you do need to make sure it is durable enough to survive the trip.
2. CAMPING BEDS
There are two trains of thought when it comes to camping beds - the airbed kind, and the off-the-ground kind. It is going to come down to personal choice. Both of them pack down nice and small so they will not take up too much room in your car. The major downside of choosing an airbed is if it gets a hole on it. There's nothing more annoying that waking up feeling stiff and sore because you've been sleeping on the ground most of the night thanks to a slow leak in your bed.
3. COOKING GEAR
Let's be realistic, no-one wants to eat cold beans out of a can for dinner. At worst you need a one burner camping stove that you can heat up the basics on. When it comes to cooking utensils, plates, cutlery, and cups choose plastic. These are light to carry, easy to clean, and won't smash easily in the hands of your children. Make sure to pack lots of old supermarket bags too. These are ideal for holding trash, keeping your cooking gear in one place, and storing your perishable foods.
When you are thinking about what to bring camping with you, while you can practically pack up everything that you own and take it with you, that detracts from the overall camping experience. Instead, why not just take the things that you need to provide a little comfort. Take the opportunity to be more minimalist while you are away. You can be plugged into the rat race any day of the week, but how often do you truly get the chance to get away from it all? Make the most of it!
